Instruction to Authors

 The Occupational Medicine, a Quarterly Journal is a peer-reviewed journal. The Journal has been published with the objective of increasing the knowledge of its readers as well as providing a platform for the interchange of scientific experiences and debates. Based on the policy of the Editorial Board, Original Research Papers, Review Articles, Case Reports and Letter to Editor are considered for publication in this Journal. However, mere translated manuscripts are not accepted.

 Submission:

§  Authors should submit their manuscript online via the following website address: http://tkj.ssu.ac.ir. After selecting the journal site, select " send article " or " submission form" from top menu bar or right menu, complete the requested steps to submit an article.

§  The manuscript should not have been published or considered for publication in any other journals. Any contradiction to the above statement will lead to the automatic withdrawal of the manuscript.

§  Provision of statement from the Bioethics Committee is essential for clinical trial studies.

§  In case of any financial support, it is important to mention the name of the respective organization/institute and the project number at the end of the manuscript.

§  Only review articles from expert researchers that have substantial amount of reporting in that particular field are accepted for publication.

§  The number of manuscript pages should not exceed 15 (including the text, figures and tables). Case reports must not exceed 5 pages.

§  Title page should include the title of the manuscript, name/surname(s) and author(s) affiliation(s), along with the contact information of the corresponding author.

§  One figure or table is required per 3-4 pages of text. Figures must be original and self-explanatory and of high quality as well as precision.

§  In case of abbreviations and Latin names, the full name should be written out for the first time in the abstract and body of the text with the abbreviation brought in parenthesis next to it. Abbreviations are not allowed in the title of articles.

§  The legends, tables, graphs and pictures should have Persian scripts. 

 Structure of Original Research Articles:

Original articles should include:

§  Title: The title should be expressive and concise. An attempt should be made to use Persian words or transcript the Latin words in Persian. The usage of Latin fonts is strictly prohibited.  The Title should be followed by the name(s) of author(s) and their affiliation(s).

§  Abstract with subheadings of Introduction, Methods and Materials, Results and Conclusion, at most with 250 words

§  3-5 keywords should be indicated after Abstract. Keywords must be MeSH terms.

§  Introduction (justification for doing the research, review on other studies, objectives of the study)

§  Materials and Methods (type of research, method of research, statistical software)

§  Results (reporting the results of research)

§  Discussion (discussing the results, comparing the results with that of similar studies, practical application of results, limitations of the research)

§  Conclusion

§  Acknowledgment

§  References (references should be numbered consecutively in order of citation in the text, style should be according to the section of "Reference writing")

 Structure of Case reports:

      Case reports should include:

·         Title

·         Abstract with subheadings of Introduction, Case report, Conclusion.

·         3-5 keywords should be indicated after Abstract. Keywords must be MeSH terms.

·         Introduction (importance and justification for the rareness of the case reported)

·         Case report

·         Discussion

·         References (references should be numbered consecutively in order of citation in the text, style       should be according to the section of "Reference writing")

 Reference writing:

References should be cited by naming the author(s) and year. Where references are cited in parenthesis, both names and date are enclosed in square brackets. Where the author is the subject or object of the sentence, only the year is enclosed in brackets.

   One author: [Frostell, 1984] or Frostell [1984].

   Two authors: [Dawes and ten Cate, 1990] or Dawes and ten Cate [1990].

   More than two authors: [Trahan et al., 1985] or Trahan et al. [1985].

Several references cited in parenthesis should be in date order and separated by semi-colons: [Frostell, 1984; Trahan et al., 1985; Dawes and ten Cate, 1990].

a-      Persian articles: Print surnames and initials of all authors when there are six or less (in case of seven or more authors the first six must be followed by et al), Title of manuscript, Name of journal. Year; Vol. (no): Page. Persian articles should be cited in English scripts.

Example:  Mohammadi A, Mojtahedzadeh R, Keshavarz H. Designing Criteria and Indices for Educational Ranking of Paramedical Sciences Schools in Iran. SDME 2006; 3(2): 86-94. [Persian] 

b-      English articles: Print surnames and initials of all authors when there are six or less (in case of seven or more authors the first six authors followed by et al should be listed), Title of manuscript. Abbreviated name of journal Year; Vol. (no): Page.

c-      Book: Surname and initials of the author(s). Name of the book. Edition no. Place of publication: Publisher. Year; Page.

d-      Chapter of a book: Surname and initials of the author(s) of the chapter. Title of the chapter. In: surname and initials of the author(s). Name of the book. Edition no. Place of publication: Publisher; Year; Page.

e-      Conference presentations:

f-       Materials from the Internet: Surname and initials of the author(s). Title of the web page, publisher, last update date, access date, complete web address (URL)

Tables, Graphs and Figures

·         Tables, Graphs and Figures should be formatted in accordance with the text.

·         Use of tables, graphs and figures should be appropriate and not redundant; examples of these (some do not contribute to results of the study) are a 2-row table, figures of routine Lab. Tools or pictures of killed Lab. Animals as witnesses to the true nature of the study.  Most authorities believe that for each 500 to 700 words there should be one figure or table.

·         The tables, graphs and figures should be self-explanatory, be numbered, have a complete title, be clear, have legend and not hand-drawn. The picture should be so clear that the findings alluded to in the title or text of the article could be visible and when necessary should be colored. In some cases the original picture should be submitted as the computer generated electrophoresis or EKG graph may not be useful.

·         Deduction of the true purpose of a table or figure should be possible without referring to the text of the article.

·         Tables and figures should explain the findings in brief.

·         Numbering the indexes should be consecutive in the text of the article.

·         Tables and figures should be numbered as they appear in the article.

   Editorial board is free to accept, revise (with author's permission) and/or reject a manuscript.
